Expert says 30% of surgeries in India are performed with robotics.

Dr. Ajay Narasimhan, senior consultant in minimally invasive and robotic thoracic surgery at Apollo Hospitals-Chennai, addressed a media conference in Tirupati on Saturday.

He noted that nearly 30% of complex surgeries in India now employ robotic technology, offering minimal invasion and precision that almost rivals practices in developed nations.

“As technology advances, we can expect an increased role for robots in thoracic surgery, further enhancing the future of healthcare in India,” he observed. Dr. Narasimhan explained that robotic surgery delivers superior precision and accuracy, giving surgeons enhanced dexterity in the confined spaces of the thoracic cavity.

This precision translates into better surgical outcomes and a lower risk of complications, with improved visualization and ergonomics playing key roles.

From the patient's perspective, this approach means less trauma, quicker recovery, and a shorter period of post-operative care. In light of the persistently high tuberculosis rates in India, Dr. Narasimhan also urged young people to avoid smoking, tobacco chewing, and drinking.
